KANKANAL Smart Current Readers

LoRaWAN-enabled 1-phase and 3-phase clamp sensors for safe, real-time current monitoring, energy analytics and predictive maintenance.

Product Overview

KANKANAL Smart Current Readers are non-invasive clamp-on sensors that measure real-time current on single-phase and three-phase circuits and send data wirelessly over LoRaWAN. They are ideal for energy monitoring, equipment diagnostics and predictive maintenance in commercial buildings, factories, data centres and infrastructure sites. Data flows into KANKANAL DeviceBoard for dashboards, alarms and integration with ERP or building management systems.

1. Product Variants

  • KANKANAL 3-Phase Smart Current Reader – monitors three phases simultaneously, available in 300 A, 500 A and 1000 A versions for main feeders and heavy equipment.
  • KANKANAL 1-Phase Smart Current Reader – monitors single circuits, available in 100 A, 250 A and 500 A versions for branch circuits, motors, pumps and HVAC units.
  • Both variants use the same LoRaWAN connectivity and data model, simplifying deployment across mixed electrical panels.

2. High-Accuracy Current Monitoring

  • Measures true RMS current for accurate load analysis.
  • Sampling frequency up to 3.3 kHz with 1 second sampling capability for fast detection of changes.
  • 1 mA resolution to capture both small and large loads.
  • Typical accuracy up to ±1% depending on model and current range.
  • Configurable reporting intervals and measurement profiles via DeviceBoard or commissioning tools.

3. Non-Invasive Clamp Design

  • Clip-on current transformer installs around the conductor without breaking the circuit.
  • Safer installation with minimal downtime; ideal for retrofit energy monitoring in live panels.
  • Compact clamp options to fit crowded distribution boards.
  • Optional detachable clamp on selected models for flexible mounting positions.

4. Self-Powered & Auxiliary Power Options

  • Energy-harvesting design draws operating power directly from the monitored conductor, removing the need for batteries.
  • USB Type-C auxiliary power input available for low-current or special use cases.
  • Reduces maintenance effort and ensures long-term, unattended operation.

5. Threshold Alarms & Equipment Analytics

  • Configurable over-current alerts, load imbalance warnings and abnormal pattern detection.
  • Supports phase-loss detection and overrange protection on three-phase models.
  • Optional external temperature probe for monitoring cable or connector temperature.
  • Integrates with DeviceBoard rules to trigger notifications, maintenance tickets or automated control actions.

6. Long-Range LoRaWAN Connectivity

  • Built-in LoRaWAN radio with ultra-high receiver sensitivity for deep indoor coverage.
  • Supports multiple regional frequency plans and standard Class A operation.
  • Optimized payloads for low bandwidth and low power consumption.
  • Works seamlessly with KANKANAL LoRaWAN Gateways and DeviceBoard Cloud dashboards.

7. Industrial-Grade Hardware Design

  • Flame-retardant enclosure suitable for electrical rooms and industrial panels.
  • Wide operating temperature range to handle hot panel interiors and cold sites.
  • High humidity tolerance for plant rooms and semi-conditioned spaces.
  • LED indicators for power and communication status, plus internal reset for maintenance.

8. Flexible Installation & Mounting Options

  • Clamp fixed around busbars or cables; transceiver fixed with cable ties or brackets.
  • Optional antenna choices (stubby, magnetic) for better RF performance inside metal cabinets.
  • Designed for quick installation during shutdown windows or live-panel work by qualified electricians.

9. Typical Use Cases

  • Energy management – track circuit-level consumption across floors, buildings and sites.
  • Predictive maintenance – monitor motors, pumps, compressors and HVAC units for overload, jamming or bearing issues.
  • Load profiling – analyse peak usage, phase balance and diversity factors for optimisation projects.
  • Sub-metering – allocate energy costs to tenants, departments or production lines.
  • Industrial & infrastructure monitoring – water plants, data centres, airports, campuses and utilities.

10. Key Advantages

  • Non-invasive and safe – no cutting of cables or major downtime.
  • Self-powered – no batteries to replace, minimal maintenance.
  • Unified portfolio – 1-phase and 3-phase models sharing the same communication and data format.
  • End-to-end integration with KANKANAL gateways, DeviceBoard analytics and ERP systems.
  • Scalable from a few critical loads to thousands of circuits across multiple facilities.
