KANKANAL Indoor LoRaWAN Gateway

High-capacity, multi-backhaul LoRaWAN gateway for smart buildings, campuses and enterprise IoT – tightly integrated with KANKANAL DeviceBoard Cloud.

Product Overview

The KANKANAL Indoor LoRaWAN Gateway is a powerful, carrier-grade gateway designed for dense indoor IoT deployments. With an 8-channel LoRaWAN radio, Ethernet/Wi-Fi/4G backhaul options and built-in network server, it provides reliable long-range connectivity for thousands of KANKANAL sensors and third-party devices across buildings, campuses and industrial facilities. DeviceBoard Cloud integration delivers dashboards, rule flows and fleet management for gateways and sensors from a single pane of glass.

1. High-Performance LoRaWAN Connectivity

  • 8-channel LoRaWAN gateway supporting high node density and concurrent uplinks.
  • Long-range coverage up to kilometres of line-of-sight, and deep indoor penetration in multi-storey buildings.
  • Excellent receiver sensitivity enabling reliable connectivity in basements, plant rooms and stairwells.
  • Supports Class A, B and C devices for both battery-powered and mains-powered sensors.

2. Multi-Backhaul Connectivity & Redundancy

  • Gigabit Ethernet for primary on-premise connectivity, with optional PoE power.
  • Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz) for flexible installations where cabling is limited.
  • 4G LTE cellular uplink for remote sites or backup connectivity.
  • Automatic failover between backhauls helps maintain near-zero downtime for critical applications.

3. Built-In Network Server & Edge Intelligence

  • Embedded LoRaWAN Network Server allows standalone deployments without external servers.
  • Local decoding/encoding of payloads for integration with building systems and industrial controllers.
  • Supports MQTT(s) and HTTP(s) to stream data into DeviceBoard, BMS, SCADA or cloud IoT platforms.
  • Compatible with Modbus TCP and BACnet/IP integrations for smart buildings and industrial environments.
  • FUOTA support for firmware updates over the air to end devices.

4. Enterprise-Grade Hardware Platform

  • Powered by a quad-core industrial CPU with ample RAM and flash for heavy traffic and future features.
  • Designed for 24/7 continuous operation in demanding environments.
  • Front-panel LEDs for power, system status, LoRa, Ethernet, Wi-Fi and 4G link indicators.
  • Internal watchdog and hardware monitoring to keep the gateway running without manual intervention.

5. Strong Security & VPN Capabilities

  • Supports multiple VPN technologies including IPsec, OpenVPN and WireGuard for secure site-to-site tunnels.
  • Built-in firewall, ACLs and port filtering to protect against unauthorised access.
  • Secure management via HTTPS and SSH with role-based user access.
  • End-to-end encryption from sensors to DeviceBoard for data privacy and integrity.

6. Rugged Indoor & Semi-Outdoor Design

  • IP65-rated enclosure protects against dust and water spray.
  • Wide operating temperature range suited for technical rooms, attics and semi-outdoor locations.
  • Low power consumption, with support for DC input, PoE and USB-C.
  • Wall, ceiling or pole mounting options for flexible placement.

7. Deep Integration with DeviceBoard Cloud

  • Automatic registration of gateways into DeviceBoard for remote monitoring and management.
  • Central dashboard for signal quality, packet statistics, backhaul status and firmware versions.
  • Rule flows to route sensor data to dashboards, alerts, ERP systems or external APIs.
  • Multi-tenant and multi-site support for system integrators and large enterprises.

8. Operations, Diagnostics & Management Tools

  • Built-in RF noise analyser to help optimise channel plans and deployment.
  • Network tools such as ping, traceroute and packet capture for troubleshooting.
  • Syslog export and SNMP integration for NOC and IT teams.
  • Bulk configuration, firmware upgrades and template-based provisioning for large fleets.

9. Typical Use Cases

  • Smart buildings – ambience monitoring, energy meters, occupancy, restroom sensors.
  • Industrial & utilities – equipment monitoring, predictive maintenance, water & gas metering.
  • Campuses & malls – centralised IoT network for multiple blocks and floors.
  • Healthcare & hospitality – environmental sensors, asset tracking and smart-room automation.
  • Agriculture & greenhouses – CO₂, soil, weather and irrigation sensors on a single network.

10. Key Advantages

  • High node density – thousands of devices per gateway in indoor deployments.
  • Resilient connectivity with Ethernet, Wi-Fi and 4G uplink options.
  • Easy integration with DeviceBoard, BMS and industrial systems.
  • Secure and manageable for IT and OT teams with VPNs, firewall and remote ops tools.
  • Scalable architecture from single-building pilots to large, multi-site networks.
