KANKANAL Solar LoRaWAN Gateway

Self-powered, IP67 LoRaWAN gateway with integrated solar and battery system for remote agriculture, utilities and industrial IoT deployments.

Product Overview

The KANKANAL Solar LoRaWAN Gateway is a self-powered, carrier-grade outdoor gateway designed for locations where wired power and connectivity are difficult or expensive. With an integrated solar panel, high-capacity rechargeable battery, IP67 enclosure and 8-channel LoRaWAN radio, it delivers long-range coverage for thousands of sensors across farms, forests, mines, utility corridors and remote industrial sites. Data is routed to KANKANAL DeviceBoard for central monitoring, analytics and automation.

1. Solar-Powered, Off-Grid Operation

  • Integrated solar panel + rechargeable battery pack for fully self-contained power.
  • Up to 4 days of continuous operation without sunlight (typical profile with 100 nodes at 10-minute reporting).
  • Smart power management optimises charging, battery protection and runtime.
  • Ideal for remote locations where mains power is unavailable or unreliable.

2. Long-Range 8-Channel LoRaWAN Connectivity

  • Built on a high-efficiency LoRa baseband chipset for low power and high capacity.
  • 8-channel LoRaWAN gateway capable of serving more than 2,000 end devices.
  • Supports LoRaWAN Class A and Class C devices across regional frequency plans.
  • Long-range coverage with receiver sensitivity down to –140 dBm, suitable for wide-area deployments.

3. Rugged IP67 Outdoor Construction

  • IP67-rated enclosure for dustproof and waterproof performance.
  • Metal cast-aluminium housing built for extreme temperatures and harsh weather.
  • Operating temperature range from –30 °C to +70 °C.
  • Designed for pole, wall or tower mounting in agricultural fields, industrial yards and utility corridors.

4. Cellular, Wi-Fi & Ethernet Backhaul

  • 4G LTE / GSM cellular uplink for remote sites far away from fibre or LAN.
  • Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz) for local access, configuration or as a backup data path.
  • Wired Ethernet via rugged connector when LAN is available.
  • Flexible backhaul options ensure reliable connectivity across a variety of deployment scenarios.

5. Embedded Network Server & Edge Intelligence

  • Integrated LoRaWAN Network Server enables standalone deployments with no external core required.
  • Supports local device management for up to 100 nodes in pure edge mode.
  • MQTT interface for streaming sensor data to DeviceBoard, cloud platforms or on-premise applications.
  • Packet filtering, listen-before-talk support and automatic retransmission for reliable communication.

6. Integrated GPS for Network Mapping

  • Built-in GPS for accurate gateway coordinates.
  • Supports coverage planning, network visualisation and geolocation-based analytics.
  • Useful for widely dispersed networks such as farms, forests, mining zones and utility lines.

7. Security, Remote Management & Diagnostics

  • Secure remote access with VPN support (e.g., OpenVPN) for management traffic.
  • Web interface for configuration, firmware upgrades and status monitoring.
  • Diagnostic tools (ping, statistics, logs) help troubleshoot remote deployments.
  • Front-panel LEDs provide quick visual feedback for power, LTE and Wi-Fi status.

8. Seamless Integration with DeviceBoard

  • Connects to KANKANAL DeviceBoard for central monitoring and control of gateways and sensors.
  • Rule flows route data to dashboards, alerts, ERP systems or external APIs.
  • Supports multi-site, multi-tenant networks for integrators and large enterprises.
  • Works alongside KANKANAL Indoor and Outdoor LoRaWAN gateways to build hybrid IoT networks.

9. Installation Kit & Power Options

  • Delivered as an all-in-one kit including solar panel, mounting brackets, antennas and battery pack.
  • Supports pole and wall mounting for flexible placement.
  • Optional solar panel wattage choices to match geographic and load conditions.
  • Extremely low typical power consumption (around 0.8 W) maximises solar efficiency.

10. Typical Use Cases

  • Smart agriculture – soil probes, irrigation valves, weather stations and livestock sensors across large fields.
  • Forestry & environmental monitoring – fire risk, weather, water levels and wildlife tracking in remote areas.
  • Oil, gas & mining – pipeline monitoring, tank farms, wellheads and mine-site sensors.
  • Utility & infrastructure – remote water/gas/electric metering, pumps and valve stations.
  • Rural & highway smart-city projects – lighting, traffic counters, weather, safety and road infrastructure monitoring.

11. Key Advantages

  • True off-grid gateway powered by solar and battery.
  • Rugged IP67 design for year-round outdoor exposure.
  • High node capacity and long-range LoRaWAN coverage.
  • Flexible backhaul options (LTE, Wi-Fi, Ethernet) for any site condition.
  • End-to-end KANKANAL ecosystem with DeviceBoard, sensors and analytics for complete IoT solutions.
